Nui students attend United Nations Youth Delegation

Right before many other teenagers would be preparing for the school break to begin, a team of four Taupo-nui-a-Tia delegates traveled to have their voices heard at the Auckland Youth Declaration (AYD). Congratulations to Mitchell Donald, Willow Allum, Niah Findley, and Phoebe Baxter on their involvement with this incredible opportunity. The group traveled to Auckland where they stayed with other students from around the motu in a backpackers lodge, and attended full-day conferences at Auckland University.

This opportunity sees young people from all around the country adding their perspectives to Declarations for the government which urges positive steps forward for a better New Zealand. Additionally, this event allowed participants to build on their pre-existing perspectives by interacting with a diverse range of teenagers and by listening to guest speakers like Sarah Bickerton and Sarah Paterson-Hamlin, along with Green Party Co-leader, Chloe Swarbrick. Issues discussed included youth crime, youth voting, mental health, education, and the economy. Overall, this was a fantastic experience for our students and one that is highly recommended for future participants in 2025. What an outstanding achievement for our young people!
