Clay Target Shooting North Islands and Nationals

Clay Target Shooting North Islands and Nationals

On the last day of term 3, the clay target team travelled to Hamilton to compete in three days of competition. Supported by parents and coaches, 9 students competed in the North Island and National secondary school competitions.
Two students also competed in the 3rd day of shooting, with Harrison Knight in the skeet event, and Nadine Gibbons chosen to represent the Bay of Plenty region in the Nationals.

The trip was a great opportunity to build as a team.  Students were involved with various activities such as team building go karting, an opportunity to try different shooting disciplines – trench and sporting as well as the serious stuff of attending a New Zealand Championship, for some of whom it was their first time competing at a top level.

A huge thank you to all who supported the team, particularly Alec Barrett who has supported Secondary School clay target shooting team for many years. The team trains as a combined Taupō District secondary school team, with students welcome from any school.

Anyone wanting to join the 2024 team is encouraged to go along this Wednesday to the Taupō Clay Target practice day held  from 3.30pm to 5pm. Further information please contact club member Bill Mason 021 893 987 or team manager Rachel Canning 021 677 398 or see the school Sports Coordinator.
