Hockey 1st XI Boys Tournament Week Wrap Up

Hockey 1st XI Boys Tournament Week Wrap Up

Our first boys hockey team played in Tauranga, in the Olympic stick, tier 3 tournament. By far the toughest tier 3 tournament this year, with many relegated Rankin teams. Taupo boys played some impressive hockey, against later finalists St Peter's Auckland and st John's college Hamilton. One narrow loss and one good win. Our third pool game was against Lynfield and with a 6-0 win, we placed ourselves for the quarterfinals.

In the quarterfinals we played the tournament winner Whangarei boys. We played the best hockey of the year and almost were able to come away with a win, but unfortunately, we just couldn't finish it. We lost 3-1. Our next game against Trident, was possibly the weakest game we played since ages. We should have won this game but we didn't. If we had, we would have played off for 5thand 6th. With losing 2-1 we now were playing for 7th and 8th instead. Our last game against Havelock North, we showed what we were worth and won our last game of the tournament 3-0.

The boys have played and developed fantastic hockey and even more important the best team play for years. Our biggest improvement this year has come from excellent team work and understanding of the game. This made the turf a happy and safe place for everyone which made everyone excel. It has been an amazing experience again , with massive e learning moment on the turf as well as off the turf.
