1st XV earn another solid win!

1st XV earn another solid win!

TNT 1st XV 44 Trident 19 FT – Saturday 3rd July

Saturday saw TNT 1st XV playing defending champions, Trident, in a must-win game on our home grounds.  With the format of this year’s premier BOP school rugby competition changed, only the top two teams in the table playoff for the title. TNT went into the game in 3rd place, 1 point behind Trident, and with only 4 games remaining. This became a crucial clash for the TNT Boys.

After a tight first half, the scores were tied at 12-12 with both teams crossing the line, and TNT playing the percentages and kicking for points whenever available.  Some attacking changes at halftime saw the TNT backline cut loose and take control, using their speed and pacey attack to impressive effect. TNT pulled away and dominated the second half to win the game 44-19 and, in the process, secure a crucial bonus-point win which has seen them leapfrog Trident and move into second place.

With 3 games remaining in the season the equation is simple: 3 wins and a place in the finals are guaranteed.  Next up for the boys is a tricky away tie with Te Taumata over in Tauranga, and then two homes games to finish the season against Western Heights and Rotorua Boys.

Remaining fixtures:

Saturday 10th July away vs Te Taumata 12 KO

Saturday 31st July Home vs Western Heights 12 KO

Saturday 7th August Home vs Rotorua Boys 12 KO
