Outdoor Education

This course provides life-long lessons for students by increasing self-esteem, resilience, organizational and communication skills. Outdoor Education offers a wide range of opportunities that take advantage of the world class outdoor environment that Taupo has to offer.

This course is a platform for preparing students who are interested in developing themselves and who want a stepping stone to further education in the adventure tourism industry.

This is a practical course that involves various school days throughout the year on Field trips. It is compulsory that students attend all field trips.

Course Content

Within our Senior Outdoor Education program, Students will participate in a variety of assessment opportunities all of which have a theory and practical component. The outdoor education course is taught in modules and include pursuits such as:

  • Rock climbing and abseiling sessions
  • Adventure based learning activities
  • Mountain biking
  • Overnight camp and tramp in the bush
  • Paddle boarding and White water rafting
  • Sea Kayaking on the lake
  • Mountain craft on Mt Ruapehu
  • Snow Skiing/Snowboarding

Costs

Each course has a recommended course contribution. This is subsidized by the school’s Star funding allowance. Costs depend on the pursuits offered and range from $120-$310 

Equipment

We are fortunate to be able to offer students most of the equipment needed for our courses. We have class sets of mountain bikes, paddle boards, kayaks, tramping packs and cookers along with various other gear to allow students the opportunity to participate.
