Music forms an integral part of the education of many of our students. It can be selected as a subject or be studied separately with specialized tuition. Students are also able to choose to be part of a school band or music group in the college and perform regularly in school or in interschool competitions.
Our thriving drama department provides students with opportunities through school productions, drama festivals, competitions, and also as a subject through to NCEA level 3. In the past few years, our students have been extremely successful in the National Shakespeare festival, where they give their own modern interpretation of a variety of Shakespeare plays. Many of our International Students have had a great experience in this department either being part of the school musical or as part of any of the competitions.
Our performance dance program provides students with NCEA qualification opportunities in choreography and performance. The results of DANCE NZ MADE, an national dance competition, speak for themselves. They show the high standards of our dancers here in Taupō compared to other regions.
Te Awhiorangi, our Kapa Haka group, has built a powerful reputation throughout the region. Maori Performing arts, is a NCEA subject, available to our international students, and is a great way to learn more about Maori Culture. A powhiri welcome when our International students arrive, is the first direct experience with this department.
