Prems report 2009

The Prems had a long and challenging year with the introduction of many new players with the leaving of last years senior players. However, 2009’s line up brought new skill and variety within the team.

Senior defender and Vice Captain Tangiwai Henry worked well in bringing in new defenders. Courtney Haywood and Tania Pearson, overall, produced a strong defence line-up. Captain Sophie Mildon led the mid court with the assistance of skilled player, Neure Pine. New midcourters, Libby Owen and Cherie Sinclair adapted well to both their team and positions. The efforts of the defence and midcourters were complimented by the new combination of shooters. Senior member and Vice Captain Ashleigh Stephens, Leigh Foai and Tuno Wawatai worked well to created a strong and capable shooting end. Both Leigh Foai and Tuno Wawatai had previously trained as defence, and both players performed in both areas of court.

The netball season started in March, where the Prems had a big impact on other teams. All players had a consistent positive attitude all of which adapted well to the new team. Overall, the season was challenging for all players, and with the hard trainings and determination of the team, they won their section of the A Champ grade. A massive thank you to the support on the sideline from family and friends, as well as Pip King and Julie McMillan whose support and assistance helped the team improve on many levels.

Finally, a massive thank you to Barbara Clarke, whose experience and passion for netball resulted in another positive and successful season.

Ashleigh Stephens and Leigh Foai.

REPORT 2007

This season the College had 12 netball teams, 2 social and 10 competitive. Without the support of teachers and parents many girls would not be able to play netball.

So on behalf of the College I would like to thank all the staff and parents who gave up their time to coach and mange the school teams. Your dedication and commitment is very much appreciated.

The following teams gained placings in their respective grades:

9 Red Winner of B Reserve

9A1 Runner up A Reserve

9A2 Runner up B Flight

Year 13 Social Runner up B Reserve

Once again thank you to all coaches and managers

B. Clarke

10 A1

Team members of the 10A1 team had a brilliant season playing through hot, stuffy weather to freezing cold weather.

We played in the A Flight Grade and had a wicked time playing against experienced opposition. All team members played to the best of their abilities. We had lots of fun along the way and did a lot of hard training.

We would like to thank our coach Raewyn Graham who was there for us from the beginning to the end. At times she was funny and joked with us and at other times we had to work hard. The team responded to her style. A big ups to all the girls in the team as we worked well from the start to the end.

10A2

10A2  had Miss Gloy as their coach for 2007, supported by the manager Mrs Forrest, and nine girls in the squad. After the round robin grading days we were put up a grade which meant our fourth place at the end of the season was particularly good. The team spirit was awesome with the girls pulling together and learning  a lot of new skills and techniques.

10B1

It was a pleasure to be a part of our 10B1 netball team. Our coach Camilla Petio was extremely helpful to all of us. Even though she made us run laps around the courts at practice we all enjoyed her coaching. We had great team spirit during our games and even if the opposition scored, we still clapped. We talked a lot about what we could improve on for next time if we lost.

Before our games we organised our warm ups together as a team and had a mixed season with some wins and losses. We would like to thank everyone who helped our team out and say a special thank you to Camilla.

10B2

Even though our team did not win all its games we showed a lot of teamwork and sportsmanship. We worked really hard and strived to do out best. The great thing about our team is that we decided, regardless of whether we won or lost we would play our hardest and have fun. However when we did win we loved it.

Trainings were a real workout because for half of it we did non-stop running and the other half we did ball drills and games. We learnt a lot about netball and improved as the season went on. 10B2 was the best team as we were all friends and we encouraged each other all the time.

We had a great coach because he gave up his own time twice a week to train us and taught us to be better at netball. 10B2 would like thank Tristan for coaching us throughout the season and putting up with us. We learnt a lot and loved playing in the team.

Thanks 10B2

Senior A

This year the Senior A had a mixed season winning and losing games. However, there were some great friendships built within the team. Throughout the year our amazing coaches, Michelle Yates and Trish Davison. These two took the team on willingly after the season had started and we are grateful for all the hard work they put into coaching our team.

We would also like to say a big thank you to Mrs Clarke for our uniforms and allowing us to go to Taradale, and to Mrs MacLachlan for supporting us and being our coach in the Taradale exchange. Finally, without all these people Senior A would not have been able to participate in the Saturday competition.  So once again thank you for your support. We enjoyed our netball throughout the year and had fun.

PREMIER REPORT 2007

It was another challenging, interesting and extremely fun season for the Taupo-nui-a-Tia Premier Team. We had a great selection of very enthusiastic, talented and highly motivated girls, all willing to proudly represent the college in the Taupo A Champ Competition.

Being apart of the A Champs Grade the team was guaranteed tough competition. However that did not affect the team’s performance, as all the girls played brilliantly throughout the netball season. As the season progressed new skills and tactics were developing and the importance of team work was soon realized by all. As a result, the girls were dedicated to trainings and worked really hard in order to improve their abilities. We had an amazing line up with dominating defense, marvelous mid-courters and stunning shooters. This year the team was full of young up and coming talent, with very few seniors. The defence had a brilliant year, dominating the show and always disrupting the opposition’s play. Thank you to Grace Whitehouse, Shannon Rastrick, and Ariana Betty for your strong defence on court. Our ‘mighty middies’ were unstoppable. Keriana Clarke, Nellie Paenga, and Sophie Mildon provided a very consistent mid-court connection, which allowed the team to bring the ball through court efficiently. Awesome commitment on court ladies. And lastly, the outstanding shooters. The shooters coped well under the intense pressure from the tough competition. Congratulations on a great season Ashleigh Stephens, Lena Tufala and Pani Awarau, well done on sinking those shots.

Once again the Prems participated in the Upper North Island Secondary Schools Netball Comp, where we endured an endless six hours drive to Whangarei. The week consisted of intense netball in the rain and sunshine, loads of food and an enormous amount of laughter. Memorable moments of tourney week were those dreaded ice buckets, dinner together in front of Shorty St and that ‘voluptuous’ red thong! A very big thank you to Ameldi and Courtney for coming to tournament with us - hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

On behalf of the TNT Prems, we’d like to thank our wonderful manager Piri Robertson for all her time and commitment throughout our season. Thank you for all your help, love and kindness on tourney week. And last but definitely not least to Barbara Clarke. How can we ever thank you Barb for your contribution and commitment to netball in the college. We are dearly grateful and privileged to be coached by such a highly commended coach. Thanks so much for teaching us new skills and tactics we have all learnt so much.

Lastly to the girls, thank you for a very enjoyable year. It was so much fun to play along side such a great team. Good luck to you all for next year and hope you have another great and successful season.

Pani Awarau.
