Students who want to participate in the cultural life of the college have a range of possibilities.

  • An extensive music facility with specialised tuition is available in a range of instruments and vocal coaching.  A combined secondary schools concert band is directed and administered at Taupo-nui-a-Tia College, as is a string group open to all string playing students.  Performance opportunities are offered to our musicians on a regular basis.  The music suite includes a recording studio and rehearsal rooms. • Major school productions combine students from all levels. Students are involved in every aspect of production including lighting, sound, set, costume and make-up. This year’s production, ‘High School Musical’ with a cast of over 60 students, was a resounding success playing to full house audiences over the week it was staged. Planning is underway for the 2009 production.
  • An active Kapa Haka group performs to a high standard at festivals, competitions and on special occasions.
  • The Pacific Island group is popular with a wide cross section of students.
  • Drama continues to have a high profile.  Students are involved in a range of performance opportunities including festivals, stage challenge and national competitions.  The college fosters a strong relationship between professional performers and students.  Each year several professional companies visit the college and students are able to participate in specialist workshops with the performers.
  • The Zenith club is designed to enhance communication and public speaking, confidence and leadership skills.  The group meets fortnightly and annual competitions in debating and speechmaking are keenly contested.
  • Performing Arts club is active in the school and meets weekly. Click here to find out more.
  • Social events include school socials for all students, a formal Senior Ball and a Graduation Dinner.

  • Spirit Week – A highlight of the school year.  The famous Spirit Week is three action packed days of interhouse competition with the emphasis on team work, co-operation and crazy fun. Funds raised during Spirit Week are donated to CANTEEN (Youth suffering from cancer).
