Each year in Term 1, the school holds their annual prelim Athletics day. The whole school is involved with students wearing house colours and competing fiercely against each other for house points. There are points awarded for the best banner, best dressed and best chant. Points are then also awarded for students who achieve standard qualifying marks for the High Jump, Long Jump, Discus, Shot Put, Javelin, Triple Jump and house relays. All the running events take place on Finals day as well as finals for the above events one week later. Students who succeed in the Finals day go on to represent the school in Mid Islands and North Island events
